Some Things Last For a Long Time

My favorite thing about going on a trip is packing.  And it’s not really the packing that I like so much, it’s the making a list of things to pack.  These lists are the sort of thing that should be added to a journal, but like ticket stubs and all the notes I passed in high school, I’ve forgotten so many times before so why start now?

I’m currently in the middle of packing for this weekend.  The amount of stuff on the list looks ridiculous for only a few days, but I still have a military-issue duffel bag and could fit half of my house in that thing.  Fuck laundry hampers, one of those duffel bags is what you need to take to the laundromat.  The list also looks extra long because I’m bringing all of the food.  The winery we’re staying at is 25 miles outside of Ste. Genevieve, which is already in the middle of nowhere as far as I’m concerned, and though 25 miles might not seem like a lot to most people, have you ever heard of Coffman, Missouri?  Didn’t think so.  I’m not driving all over the unfamiliar countryside just to find a Super Wal-Mart.  The villas we’re in have fully equipped kitchens and wi-fi, which means I can have a fridge and not be separated from the Internet for a whole weekend.  Because I am an urbanized sissy.  And I’m fine with it.

I lent Shannon my iPod for the wedding reception, so the drive down will be turned over to Graham’s selection.  Which is…okay, I guess, I’ve just heard most of it about a hundred times already.  I mean, the Asylum Street Spankers have some good songs, but I don’t smoke weed and am eventually just like, really?  You guys are still this high?

But I am nothing if not an excellent road trip partner, so instead of complaining, this is what I’ll be playing in my head on the way down to a wedding weekend in Ste. Gen…
